Throwback Thursday - Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show
Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show was a show performed at Disney Hollywood Studios. It debuted on May 5, 2005 as part of the Happiest Celebration on Earth. When it was originally vuilt, Lights, Motors, Action! resulted in cutting the Backlot Tour nearly in half, including the full removal of the classic Residential Street area. It was closed to make room for the new Star Wars/Toy Story expansion in DHS. The last show was performed on April 2, 2016.
Lasting just under 40 minutes, the show includes car-based action, pyrotechnics, jet ski chases and physical stunt work. The cars are followed by cameras and film, both shot during the performance and pre-recorded, is shown to the audience on a billboard television screen. The show scenery is inspired by a Mediterranean village in the south of France.
Herbie, the Volkswagen from the Love Bug, previously made an appearance in an intermission in the middle of the show, but was later replaced by Lightning McQueen from Cars.
The show starts with a red "hero car" being chased by four black "pursuit cars". The scene ends with the hero car jumping backwards off a ramp and a specially designed pursuit car being blown in half. While changing scenes, the hero car driver explains how the stunt is performed. The next scene is another chase in the Marketplace involving truck jumps and an airbag landing.
The next sequence involves motorcycle and jet ski chases and features a stuntman falling 30 feet from a building into and airbag along with a motorcycle rider catching on fire.
The final scene features footage edited into a finished film shown on the big screen. As the film reaches it's climax, fire erupts in the canal in front of the stage. A hero car appears being chased by a pursuit car. It concludes with the hero car jumping the canal through fire and explosions directly towards the audience.
