Everything you need to know about: Rider Switch Service (Updated)

If you have children in your party that do not meet the height requirements for larger rides, or simply don't want to ride, Walt Disney World offers a Rider Switch Service. With this service, the entire family only needs to wait in line once.

*On rides where this service is offered, you all enter the line. If you do not have Fastpasses, you enter the standly line. To enter the Fastpass line, all the riders must have a Fastpass. 

*Ask the Cast Member for a Rider Switch Pass. At least one adult and the non-riders will be issued a pass and asked to wait in a designated area. You will become Party 2.

*The remaining members are Party 1 and proceed to the ride.

*When the ride is over, Party 1 locates Party 2. The non-rider then switches places, hands the Rider Switch Pass in and boards the attraction without having to wait a second time.

*The non-riding adult now boarding the attraction may bring up to TWO additional guest to ride with them, so other children who are riding will get to ride twice in a row (Sweet!)

Because there is so much conflicting information on the internet, even from the Mom's Panel itself!, I emailed Disney directly to clarify the information.

As of June, 2019, this is their response. To use the FP line, ALL riders need to have FP. Basically, they are saying that if you all have FP, you really don't need to use the Rider Switch at all because you have a 1-hour window. If the first rider gets in line when the FP starts, in most cases, they will be done in time for the second rider to still use their FP. You would really only need it when the FP will expire before the first rider returns.

Everything you need to know about: Memory Maker

Photopass Plus has now become Memory Maker! With Memory Maker, all your digitial photos are available for one price. This now includes ride photos and character meeting photos as well as photos taken by Photopass photographers throughout the parks. ALSO,Memory Maker now includes VIDEO clips from certain attractions!

The regular cost for Memory Maker sold at select merchandise locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort is $199. You can purchase it in advance online at a discount price of $169 here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/memory-maker/ IMPORTANT NOTE: If you purchase in advance at the discount price, photos taken within 3 days of purchase will NOT be included and must be purchased separately. So be sure to pre-order MORE than 3 days in advance to have all your vacation photos included!

Your Memory Maker is accessed online. If you’re signed in when you purchase Memory Maker, it can be accessed by visiting Disney PhotoPass. If you’re not signed in, you’ll first need to claim your Memory Maker by visiting My Disney Experience. Your Memory Maker must be linked to your Disney account to download photos.

Link your entire travel party to the Memory Maker account so everyone's photos will show up, even if you are on separate rides! Each photo can be linked to your Disney account with a touch of your MagicBand, Memory Maker card, park admission card or Disney PhotoPass Card. There is NO LIMIT to the number of photos you can have on your Memory Maker account. So be sure to take advantage of the Photopass photographers everywhere they are located! 

You can SHARE Memory Maker with up to 25 your friends and family!! If you have friends or family traveling in the same time frame, you can put ALL your photos onto one Memory Maker account. To do this, you must link everyone to the Memory Maker account and ALLOW photo sharing using My Disney Experience. 

You will see your photos when you view your Disney PhotoPass photos. You can still make unlimited edits and add Disney borders. Select your favorites and add them to your cart. Visit My Downloads and download as many photos—as many times—as you wish. You can download your Memory Maker photos right away or you can wait until you get home and download them all at once. Once you download the first photo, you have 30 days to capture more photos.

Photos remain in your account for 45 days from the date they are taken. You may purchase a one-time 15-day extension for the photos in your account which will set the expiration to 60 days from the date taken. Photopass does not offer options for permanent storage of photos or any other extensions, so be sure to finish your edits and download your photos within this time frame. Otherwise, your photos will be lost for good! 

Purchasing the Memory Maker gives you DIGITAL DOWNLOADS of all your photos only. You will no longer receive a physical CD containing your photos. You may still purchase prints and other photo products with your Memory Maker photos by visiting the Disney Photopass website here: https://mydisneyphotopass.disney.go.com/keepsakes/index/notlogged/

Walt Disney World - Is it "worth it"?

Since I joined Facebook, the majority of time I spend on it has been spent on my favorite subject: Disney. I joined many different fan groups and I probably spend more time on them than anything else. I soon noticed that no matter what the actual subject was, I began to see the same question asked again and again: "IS IT WORTH IT?"

Usually cost is the main factor. Nobody can really give you an accurate estimate of what your Walt Disney World vacation will cost. There are just too many variables to consider. A family of four may be able to visit for a week for around $2000 while another family of four can spend $10,000 for the same week. First, there is the difference in resorts from off-site to value to deluxe. The next biggest expense is food: dining plan, deluxe dining, no dining. Then add to that the multitude of available extras such as: tours, park hoppers, water parks, excursions, memory maker, etc. The list goes on and on.

When it comes to these things, only you know your family best. You know if you want to be in the parks from open til close or if you want to spend time lounging by the resort pool. You know if your kids will prefer to eat Croque Monsieur or Chicken Nuggets. You may not want to spend extra on a dessert party if your family doesn't eat a lot of sweets. Or, you may not want to get tickets to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party if your family prefers Halloween. When it comes to spending extra money, other people's opinions can only hold so much weight. Some people love the value resorts, some hate them. Some love Typhoon Lagoon while others prefer Disney Quest. There are too many extras to try them all at once. Choose the ones that fit best with your tastes, style and budget. If you're lucky enough to return, you can always try others next time.

The other factor is time. Even though we all wish it, we can't stay there forever. Most of us have a set amount of time to spend. And although we know we can't possibly do it all, we want to cram in as much as possible. So is it worth it to wake up early for rope drop? Is it worth it to wait in line for 7 Dwarfs Mine Train if we couldn't get a Fastpass? Is it worth it stay up late for Extra Magic Hours?

This one can be even harder to get a clear opinion on. I've noticed that the most popular response to "what ride do you dislike the most?" is Stitch's Great Escape. However, I think it's funny and we go on every trip. If you asked people about riding Maelstrom two years ago, I'm betting the popular response would be "don't go out of your way or bother getting a Fastpass for it". However, when it's closure was suddenly announced last year, people were clamoring to get on. See, the one thing that we can always count in when it comes to Walt Disney World is that it is constantly changing. And some of these changes happen on very short notice. You never know when the last time you did something was going to be the LAST time. I may have taken time to get a few more photos at the Sorcerer's Hat if I had know it would be gone by the time I returned. The list of extinct attractions at WDW is growing all the time and there are plenty of things on that list that I wish I got to try before they were gone.

That's not to say you will love them all. And that's OK. There actually have been a number of things I have tried and decided that once was definitely enough! To prove my point, one of those things was Finding Nemo, the Musical. I know, I know! Most people think it's the most wonderful show on property and would think I'm insane. But I didn't really like it. And, I thought it was too long and took up too much of my park time. So as you can see, there is no definitive answer when choosing what attractions to see.

Whether we are talking about resorts, restaurants, parties or tickets everyone wants to know if the extra time or money is "worth it". And, usually, I will see an even amount of responses that are pro and con. Because the truth of the matter is that everyone feels differently about everything. Things that are very important to some may be less important to others. So for all these reasons, I say that EVERYTHING is "worth" trying at least once. Even for the things I don't want to repeat, I don't regret having had the experience. Whether you love them or hate them, every experience in WDW is unique in it's own way so don't be afraid to form your own opinions. And one of the best things about having so many choices is that no two trips are the same. Trying new things makes every trip feel new and different. So while it's OK to ask for reviews or opinions, don't let those opinions stop you from trying anything because you never know when it will be your last chance!

TCM hosts March Treasures From the Disney Vault

In conjunction with their new partnership, Turner Classic Movies is hosting a new on-air showcase of Treasures From the Disney Vault. TCM will feature a wide array of Disney classics for the whole family to enjoy, including animated shorts, feature films, live-action movies, documentaries, nature films, and made-for-television movies. The schedule for this second installment is shown in the photo above. It airs this Sunday, March 15 beginning at 8:00 pm.

Wonderland Tea Party

DETAILS: This is a one hour tea party for children age 4-10. Children will make and eat cupcakes, drink tea (juice), hear a story and make flower bouquets. Available Monday through Friday. Children only. Parents do not attend.

Perfectly Princess Tea Party
LOCATION: Garden View Tea Room, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
CHARACTERS LIKELY TO APPEAR: Aurora and Rose Petal
DETAILS: At this meal, each girl receives a doll, tiara, bracelet, necklace, rose, and scrapbook along with food and entertainment. Boys will receive a sword and shield and plush bear. Not available on Tuesdays or Saturdays. Children are encouraged to dress as their favorite princess. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

GMA unveils the first hints of the Coolest Summer Ever at Walt Disney World

This morning, Good Morning America announced the Coolest Summer Ever coming to Walt Disney World resort this summer. 

It all begins with a 24-hour Magic Kingdom event to kick off summer on Memorial Day weekend. This event will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. on May 22-23.

Some highlights from the Coolest Summer Ever include:

• Frozen Fun – “Frozen” Summer Fun LIVE will bring Princess Anna, Queen Elsa, Kristof and Olaf with citizens of Arendelle appearing daily at Disney’s Hollywood Studios June 17-Sept. 7.
• Cool Thrills Rides – Guests will find thrills from mild to wild to out of this world in all four Walt Disney World parks. Choose from Seven Dwarfs Mine Train plus Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom Park; Test Track and Soarin’ at Epcot; Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom; Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Twilight Zone™ Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
• Star Wars Celebrations – Guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios find stars from another galaxy during Star Wars Weekends May 15 – June 14.
• New Restaurants and Shopping – Throughout the summer, new waterfront dining and boutique shops flow into the Downtown Disney shopping/dining/entertainment district as its transformation into Disney Springscontinues.
• World Showcase Entertainment – New entertainment acts will appear throughout Epcot World Showcase, which also brings a fresh summery twist on fan favorite, Voices of Liberty.
• Polynesian Village Resort – The newly reimagined Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort opens with new, first-ever overwater Disney Vacation Club bungalows, perched above the water near Magic Kingdom.
• A Splash at Water Parks – A cool new deal doubles the fun at Disney’s two iconic water parks – Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach.
